SHAPES Report on Prince Street School

SHAPES stands for "School Health Action, Planning and Evaluation System" and is a provincial survey of students from grades 5 to 12. The results of the 2010-2011 SHAPES survey are available for the province as a whole and school-level results for Prince Street Elementary are also available:

Minutes of November 19, 2012 Meeting

A meeting of the Prince Street Home and School was held at the school on November 19, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the A+ Room. Approximately 12 parents were in attendance, along with Principal Terry MacIsaac and Vice-Principal Colleen Mullen-Doyle.

Principal's Report

There have been staff changes since the school year has started. Christa Raeburg and Jill MacNeil are both out on maternity leave. Garth McKay is in for Christa Raeburg and Denise MacDonald-Vail is in for Jill MacNeil.

On October 25th (evening) and October 26th (all day) were parent-teacher interviews. There was a good turn out for these interviews.

Susan Lee Manning is in doing the PLIP Program. There are four students that do the  program during the morning. The program helps the students with reading and writing. The program runs until December.

Novemeber 8th, there were two assemblies. The first one was for Remembrance Day. The second one dealt with Bullying. Noella Klawitter was the guest speaker. Noella is visually impaired and a paralympian. She talked about being bullied and being different.

The wireless project that has been set up near the end of last year's school year has been extended for an extra six months. Originally the project was to be six months long. Now it will be until the end of the current school year. The cost is covered by the Home School Association.

Report cards go out December 4th.

The school switched companies for the school pictures. Provincial Studios had been the previous company and has been switched to Light Touch.

On November 9th, there will be a P.D. Day. The topic that will dealt with is Literacy Marks. The literacy marks are down provincially and in the school. The teachers will be looking at ways to improve marks in transactional writing. For ex: How to make a recipe.

The next Art Blitz is Dec 6.

The Christmas Concerts dates are as follows:

  •      December 10th Kindergarten to Grade 3
  •      December 12th Grade 4 to Grade 6

The storm dates for the Christmas Concerts are December 11th for Kindergarten to Grade 3 and December 13th for Grades 4 to Grade 6.
There will be a bake sale table and a Basket Raffle on both nights of the concerts.

Trinity United Church will again be making Christmas Dinner for the students on December 19th. There will a full turkey dinner and juice and treats. In the evening of December 19th, Trinity United Church will be putting on Scrooge at the church. The church will be selling tickets.

The last of school before the Christmas Holidays is Friday December 21st and the first day back after the Holidays is thursday, January 3rd.

On December 7th, is the first movie night held at the school. The movie will start at 6:30 with the doors opening at 6:15p.m. Admission is by donation and there will be a canteen set up with popcorn, juice, and other snacks set up for sale during the movie.

The next Home and School meeting is Wednesday, January 16th at 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming Events

Some upcoming events on the Home and School calendar:

  • Friday, December 7 is Movie Night at the school. Stay tuned for details.
  • Christmas Concerts at the school are December 10 (Kindergarten to Grade 3) and December 12 (Grades 4 to 6). The Home and School will be selling raffle tickets and baked goods.
  • Trinity United Church will be proving a Christmas Dinner at lunch for the entire school on December 19. Our thanks to the church for this generous project.
  • The next Home and School Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the school.

校长报告

在册学生数量较去年下降。去年有282名学生在校;今年为267名。57名学生由于升学或搬迁离开而45名学生本学年加入本校。

纵观全年,学生人数流动率达到20%,部分学生以学校作为过渡。

在王子大街学校共有41名英语为额外语言的学生,代表着11个国家和14种语言。去年共有54名英语为额外语言的学生。

目前学校共有15个班级。三个学前班,其余年级各两个班。

912日召开了教师见面之夜。出席率较前一年有所下降。 

101号和2号学校进行照片拍照。补/重照工作将于月底进行。

迄今募集资金工作已经展开,巧克力棒和优惠卷册被作为卖品。售卖优惠卷册花掉了一半的经历和时间,然后巧克力棒或将带来多于一半的筹款。

操场秋千将结束安装并于108日启用。还有部分操场设备将要维护。设备半年维护一次。在夏天更新的设备会有8年保修期。

在今年的教师专业发展日将着重致力于写作,计算能力和艺术观念的工作。学校将在每间教室门上装配艺术框架以便教师可以展示学生在学年当中的艺术作品。

1019号下午将举行本学年第一次艺术闪电战活动。

1020日道格柯里将在夏洛特城冰壶俱乐部招待一场煎饼早餐。来自该早餐的收入将用于王子大街,帕克戴尔(Parkdale),博弛伍德(Birchwood)学校的早餐项目。王子大街早餐项目将在A+教室进行,每天早晨会有8090名孩子享用。

108日是感恩节,1011日和12日是教师大会日。这些天孩子放假。

家长会将于1025日晚和26日全天进行。

The first Home and School parent meeting of 2012-2013 will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the school. All parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend.

选举新的管理委员会

除了一项决议被送回进一步说明外,其他所有决议都被通过,计算机访问使用政策决议被修改,主要是增加更多详细的信息。

长报告:

上一次电影之夜有很好的参与率。特里麦克艾萨克提醒我们动画片更易于吸引观众的注意力,影片最好在9095钟之间。

际聚餐晚宴取得了又一次成功,150人参加

滑冰募捐活动正在进行,尽管今年有许多募捐。教师们觉得它是很有价值的,因为钱款都用于教室以及支付学期末的旅行。担心的是没有足够的筹集钱款承担全校去联邦艺术中心表演,并且可能需要从家庭学校联合会出资承担部

分学生的期末旅行。家庭学校联合会管理委员会已经在努力募集资金来弥补以上两件事情的短缺。

线因特网的试点项目很快会实施。它将是一个封闭的网络,教师可登录且将有过滤器。皮特.鲁卡维纳和肯.威廉姆斯正在借用和安装这个盒子,贝尔阿兰特已经提供了六个月的因特网连接。我们建议六个月可以是不连续的,因为学校在七月和八月关闭。家庭学校联合会已经同意支付大约200元来承担安装网线和电缆等的费用。

液晶投影仪或智能白板将会安装到每间教室,除了一间学前班教室。

基利老师五年级班级将于五月份会在媒体上首次公映他们的科学影片,会进一步通过ArtSmarts来筹集项目资金。同一天放学后,将为Matuto举行一场才艺表演。时间会在五月第一周另行通知。

425日上午10:15分,复活节形象大使将访问学校。

今年牙医诊所将于514日来校诊疗三周。治疗兼首次检查。讨论了家长是否知道通过省牙医保健项目哪些是涵盖的内容。如果牙医诊所发现问题,他们将联系父母。新移民协会需要涉及协助翻译并获得家长同意。

全省三年级和六年级阅读和写作评估将进行。

515日是青年作者之夜

/六月将会见学前班家长,即将入学的学前班学生将会参观学校;目前学前班注册学生41名,三个班级。

贝格老师已经写了一个音乐剧,学生们已经在忙于彩排。将于531日晚7点在Carrefour剧场演出,将会设置门票价格。彩排将会为学生在学校进行。

4.春季嘉年华活动的讨论延期至下周委员会会议进行。

下次会议时间还未确定。

PEI Home and School Federation Resolutions for 2012 Annual General Meeting

The PEI Home and School Federation's 59th Annual Meeting and Convention will be held Saturday, April 14th, 2012 at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel. Among the items on the agenda will be the consideration of resolutions presented by local home and schools and by the provincial board. 

Approved resolutions become Federation policy, which is used by the President and other board members when speaking on behalf of the Federation. All resolutions are mailed to the appropriate destinations (e.g. Minister of Education, Health, Transportation) and follow-up meetings arranged with officials, if applicable. Follow-up information is provided to the membership at subsequent Semi-Annual and Annual Meetings of the Federation and on our website.

Resolutions are one of the most powerful tools in the home and school movement has to affect change and offer feedback.

This year there are 8 resolutions being presented:

  • REQUEST THE GOVERNMENT OF PEI TO INVESTIGATE AND IMPLEMENT SCHOOL EFFICIENCIES
  • RENAME THE CAPITAL BUDGET LINE ITEM FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
  • RESTORE CAPITAL FUNDING FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
  • SIMPLIFICATION OF THE ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
  • ENHANCE AND AFFIRM THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MINISTER’S IT ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON COMPUTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
  • THE IMPORTANCE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES IN THE HOME
  • CLASS SIZE / COMPOSITION

At Prince Street School we will review and vote on these resolutions at our meeting of March 13, 2012, and then our delegates to the meeting will vote accordingly at the 2012 Annual General Meeting.
